3M™ VHB™ Tape

Introduction
3M™ VHB™ (Very High Bond) tape serves as the 'backbone' of structural bonding engineering, representing the ultimate alternative to traditional screws, rivets, and welding. Traditional mechanical fasteners require drilling into materials, which not only damages the surface and invites rust, but also creates stress concentration that weakens the overall structure. In contrast, 3M™ VHB™ utilizes a unique 100% acrylic closed-cell foam structure that combines the 'fluid wetting' of a liquid with the 'robust shear resistance' of a solid. Under compression, the adhesive flows microscopically into the substrate's irregularities, establishing molecular-level contact and evenly distributing the load-bearing stress across the entire tape surface."

  • Integrated Core Construction The entire series is constructed from 100% acrylic closed-cell foam. Since the foam core itself is composed of high-strength acrylic pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA), the entire tape exhibits homogenous viscoelastic properties from its core to the surface. Under compression, the adhesive flows microscopically like a liquid into the surface textures of the substrate, creating a 100% molecular-level contact area.

  • High-Density Closed-Cell Sealing Performance The internal foam pores feature a "closed-cell" design, where each cell is completely independent and non-interconnecting. This specialized structure forms a rigid physical barrier that not only provides exceptional Z-axis tensile strength, but also completely blocks the ingress of moisture, air, oils, and chemical solvents, achieving a premium, permanent waterproof and airtight sealing effect.

  • Stress Distribution & Viscoelastic Elongation (Viscoelasticity) The adhesive mass possesses excellent viscoelastic properties, enabling it to absorb mechanical vibrations and impact energy several times its own thickness. When bonding dissimilar materials (such as aluminum to plastic) that experience differing thermal expansion and contraction due to temperature variations, this structural foam tape dynamically elongates to evenly distribute concentrated stress, preventing delamination or material deformation.

Leveraging its 100% acrylic closed-cell structure to deliver unique viscoelasticity, this ultra-high bond structural foam tape perfectly absorbs vibrations, evenly distributes stress, and seamlessly accommodates the thermal expansion and contraction between dissimilar materials. Combined with premium waterproof sealing and outstanding outdoor weatherability, it stands as the ultimate 'invisible' bonding solution to flawlessly replace traditional mechanical fasteners such as screws, rivets, and welding."

Due to its ability to deliver extreme structural strength and withstand harsh environments, this tape is widely utilized in architectural glass curtain wall bonding, vehicle body panel and trim assembly, outdoor HVAC and home appliance fixation, as well as large electronic signage. It is the premier choice for heavy industry and precision manufacturing scenarios that demand long-term resistance to high winds and vibrations, while requiring a flawless, seamless, and fasteners-free aesthetic."
